Abstract:
Beam-column joints where the bottom beam bars are lapped at the column are frequently areas of congestion in reinforced concrete construction. The amount of bottom steel that passes through the joint doubles, often resulting in clearance problems with the column ties or beam stirrups and poor consolidation of the concrete at a critical location where the concrete is under a complex state of stress. To reduce this congestion, alternative splice locations and bar arrangements are presented.
