Abstract:
The New Central Library in Minneapolis, MN, incorporates almost 400 circular, exposed-concrete columns and capitals. Because the columns and capitals form visual focal points throughout the building interior, the designer specified that the surfaces have minimal seam lines and bug holes. To satisfy the specification, custom glass-fiber composite forms and self-consolidating concrete were used.
