Abstract:
This study investigated the effects of tendon arrangements on performance of the two-way unbonded post-tensioned (PT) slabedge column connections through finite element analysis. Two types of tendon arrangements—BD and DB—were imposed. First, four sets of test data of the two-way unbonded PT slab-edge column connections were verified by simulation. Then, effects of tendon arrangements in the presence and absence of a shear cap in the area of the slab-column connection and different concrete compressive strengths were investigated. The results indicated an increased initial stiffness, decreased flexural capacity, and a change in the type of connection failure if the tendon arrangements were banded perpendicular to the loading span. The presence of the shear cap in all samples along with the presence of each type of the tendon arrangements considerably increased the flexural capacity. The change of tendon arrangements from BD to DB, and vice versa, affected the flexural capacity and failure type.
