Abstract:
The influence of torsion on the behavior of floor slab structures is examined using the results of tests of typical multi-panel and isolated half-panel slab structures supported on spandrel beams at the edges. Of particular interest is the transfer of exterior negative moment from the slab to the columns through the spandrel beams at service loads and at failure. The test results provide a means of estimating the importance of torsion in floor slab structures and of evaluating the applicability of proposed design procedures for torsion to spandrel beams.
