Abstract:
Constant load fatigue tests of various types of welded wire mesh (weldmesh) in air and as reinforcement in ferrocement in unidirectional flexure are described. The variable parameters were the percentage of reinforcement, the type of weldmesh, the effect of galvanizing the wires, and the level of repeated stresses in the outermost layer of reinforcement. The test results show significant differences between the fatigue behavior of wires tested in air and in ferrocement. P-S-N curves obtained under these two conditions are pre-sented. The fatigue strength of different types and amounts of wire in ferrocement plates appears to differ appreciably. The increases of average crack width, deflection, and curvature in the various composites under repeated loading are reported.
