The American Concrete Institute (ACI) has approved the formation of two new technical committees under its Technical Activities Committee (TAC), further advancing ACI’s commitment to using its resources and expertise to provide leadership in the effective use of concrete while fostering awareness through communication and stakeholder engagement. New Committee: 390 – Polished Concrete TAC approved the formation of ACI Committee 390 – Polished Concrete, a former subcommittee of ACI/ASCC Committee 310 – Decorative Concrete. The committee’s mission is to “Create and maintain a comprehensive specification for polished concrete flatwork to ensure consistent quality, durability, and performance.” The formation of Committee 390 reflects the growing demand for standardized guidance and educational resources to support proper specification, construction, polishing, and maintenance of polished concrete systems. Christopher Wright chairs the committee. Committee 390 will hold its next meeting during the Fall 2026 ACI Concrete Convention in Atlanta. Industry professionals interested in contributing to the committee’s work are encouraged to attend. New Committee: 534 – Precast Concrete Tunnel Segments TAC also approved the discharge of Committee 533, Precast Panels, and the creation of ACI Committee 534 – Precast Concrete Tunnel Segments. Committee 534 will assume responsibility for the documents previously managed by Committee 533. The committee’s mission is to “Develop and report information pertaining to one-pass precast segmental concrete tunnel linings regarding analysis, design, and construction guidelines.” The new committee reflects the industry's continued focus on tunnel infrastructure and the increasing use of precast segmental concrete systems in transportation and underground construction projects. A significant goal of this Committee will be to revise ACI PRC-533.5-20: Guide for Precast Concrete Tunnel Segments. Carlo Cattelan chairs Committee 534. The committee’s will also meet during the Fall 2026 ACI Concrete Convention in Atlanta. Interested individuals are encouraged to participate in the committee’s activities and attend the meeting. “The formation of these new committees demonstrates ACI’s commitment to identifying critical areas of industry growth and providing the technical leadership needed to support them,” said Mike Tholen, senior managing director, Technical Operations, ACI. “These committees will help advance best practices, strengthen the global concrete industry, and help achieve ACI’s mission of advancing knowledge of concrete and its use.” Today, ACI's more than 400 committees and subcommittees provide hands-on opportunities to develop and disseminate information on concrete materials, design, and construction. ACI committees cover a diverse range of technical topics and Institute programs and are the perfect place to connect with peers and industry leaders from across the globe.
