The American Concrete Institute (ACI) announced the release of its Board Policy on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a comprehensive policy governing the use of AI technologies across ACI’s programs, publications, standards development, and educational resources. The Policy reflects ACI’s commitment to advancing concrete knowledge responsibly as AI tools become increasingly prevalent throughout the construction industry. “AI is reshaping how our industry designs structures, optimizes materials, delivers projects, and absorbs information,” said Scott Anderson, ACI president. “This policy ensures that ACI, and the professionals who rely on our resources, may embrace the benefits of AI while maintaining the rigor, integrity, and trust that have defined ACI for more than a century.” The Policy, in its entirety below, will be incorporated into ACI’s documents and processes. American Concrete Institute Board Policy on use of Artificial Intelligence: The American Concrete Institute (ACI) prohibits the entry of ACI standards, ACI draft documents, ACI committee work products, and all related ACI intellectual property (“ACI IP”) into any form of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, open or closed, such as ChatGPT or any other similar generative AI system. Creating derivatives of ACI IP (including ACI standards, draft documents, or committee work products) using AI is also prohibited. Exceptions to these policies may only be made in writing by ACI’s Executive Vice President. In the case of such unauthorized use, ACI will suspend the licensee’s or user’s access to ACI IP, and further legal action may be considered. This policy applies to all ACI members, licensees, committee participants, and any other individuals or entities with access to ACI IP. About the American Concrete Institute: The American Concrete Institute (ACI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the leading global authority for the development, dissemination, and adoption of its consensus-based standards, technical resources, and educational, training, and certification programs.
