Webinar Series: Finite Element Method (Part 6 of 6) – Reliability, Verification, and Validation of Finite Element Structural Models

May 4, 2027 to May 4, 2027
Starting Time:   1:00PM EST
End Time:   2:00PM EST

online
Sponsor(s): American Concrete Institute

Description:
This webinar is Part 6 of a six-part series on the finite element method (FEM) for approximate structural analysis. The series presents practical concepts for linear elastic finite element analysis of structures, including preprocessing, analysis, and post-processing. The series is intended to bridge mathematical concepts and physical engineering behavior so practitioners can better evaluate finite element structural models and analysis results. Viewing the previous parts is encouraged but not required.

Part 6 focuses on reliability considerations for approximate structural analysis using finite element methods. Topics include sanity checks based on structural equilibrium, compatibility, consistency of modeling assumptions, analysis procedures, post-processing, and combination of results. The webinar also introduces categories of finite element analysis errors and practical techniques for calibration, verification, and validation of model inputs and outputs.
