The American Concrete Institute recently sponsored and attended the International Code Council 2021 Annual Conference. The ICC Annual Conference was held in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, on September 18-21, 2021, and included 1,100 registered attendees and code officials from across the United States.
The conference consisted of the ICC Board of Directors meeting where discussions took place on global services for adoption of the I-codes and on inspections of high-rise buildings. The remaining days included council meetings and sessions addressing many concepts that align with ACI priorities.
“Networking is also an extremely important part of code advocacy and outreach,” stated Steve Szoke, ACI Code Advocacy Engineer. “ACI staff made connections to support the adoption of ACI CODE-562 in building codes and to increase citations for certification programs for qualified personnel who conduct special inspections and tests.”
The public comment hearings then began on September 22 and included ACI testimony on items related to referencing ACI CODE-318 for the design and construction of swimming pool reservoirs in the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code. ACI also testified to the alignment of International Building Code provisions with ACI committee documents and direction regarding off-site concrete construction and 3-D printed concrete buildings.
