In March 2018, ACI Certification staff traveled to the U.K. for further development of a British Standards/European Norms-based ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician program in cooperation with the Institute for Concrete Technology (ICT). This initiative is the second of two programs currently being developed under new ACI Certification policies that set criteria for and allow the development of ACI Certification programs based on the Standards of other countries. ACI Managing Director of Certification, John Nehasil, and ACI Manager of Certification Program Development, Michael Morrison, met with a group of ICT-affiliated representatives assembled by incoming ICT President Robert Lewis, FACI, to review draft core documentation and providing directional input for the program designed for use in the U.K., Ireland, and other European Countries. The group met for two days, and before adjourning developed a plan for a follow-up trip in June 2018 to provide initial administrative training and orientation to ICT-identified examiners. This British Standards/European Norms-based program is intended to fit within ICT’s qualification matrix for concrete industry personnel, and provide an important step on the pathway to higher-level ICT qualifications.
