As of November 2013, ACI’s Certification department had 33 Sponsoring Groups offering the ACI/CRSI Adhesive Anchor Installer (AAI) program, and over 400 people have participated. Demand for this important program is growing because ACI 318-11 has been adopted by the 2012 International Building Code (IBC). Whenever the 2012 IBC becomes effective in a state or other jurisdiction, ACI 318-11 effectively will be law. Measuring the Depth of an Anchor Bolt ACI 318-11, Section D.9.2.2, requires: “Installation of adhesive anchors horizontally or upwardly inclined to support sustained tension loads shall be performed by personnel certified by an applicable certification program. Certification shall include written and performance tests in accordance with the ACI/CRSI Adhesive Anchor Installer Certification program, or equivalent.” Filled Overhead Tubes in the Test Jig The ACI/CRSI Adhesive Anchor Installation Certification Program requires anchor installers to demonstrate an ability to read, comprehend, and execute instructions for properly installing adhesive anchors in concrete. To demonstrate this ability, they must pass a closed-book, multiple-choice examination and a performance examination. The performance examination requires installers to demonstrate the installation of adhesive anchors in a vertical down and vertical up position.
