Urbanization and the growing percentage of impermeable surface areas can contribute to an increase in runoff and flooding. Pervious concrete pavement systems are technologies that might mitigate some of these problems. Pervious concrete is a material used as the structured surface layer of a permeable pavement system that allows the rainwater to pass through its structure into an aggregate storage bed below and then infiltrate into the soil below or discharge to a stormwater system. This presentation reviews research on the performance of several placements and some additional potential benefits of the use of these technologies.

Dr. Liv Haselbach has authored numerous papers on sustainability related to topics such as low impact development and carbon sequestration and is active in the sustainability education community.
