Exploiting SSI Effects in Structural Design of Bridges
Meeting: Technical session during the ACI Concrete Convention – Spring 2020, March 29-April 2, 2020, Chicago/Rosemont, IL; sponsored by ACI Committee 341, Earthquake-Resistant Concrete Bridges.
Solicited: State-of-the-art papers are invited to enhance the ongoing discourse on the methods for consideration of seismic soil-structure interaction (SSI) effects in performance-based design and assessment of bridges with the aim to reduce demands in critical pier plastic hinge regions. This session aims to revisit SSI for bridges. It would be anticipated that abstracts may be more traditional in the sense of analysis of SSI effects or inclusion of interaction in analysis, but that the focus may be more on the use of SSI as a broader means for controlling demands in design. Therefore, design-oriented abstracts are particularly welcome for this session. The session is organized in honor of Mark Aschheim, FACI, who was a pioneer in the field of SSI effects and design considerations in earthquake-resistant bridges.
Requirements: 1) paper title; 2) author/speaker name(s), title, organization, and contact information; and 3) an abstract of at least 150 words.
Deadline: Abstracts are due by January 20, 2020.
