Abstract:

One of the most arresting aspects of torsion in structural concrete is the rapid growth of research over the past decade. Long neglected compared with other areas of concrete technology, torsion has been assigned an increasingly greater importance by engineers, and it is not at all surprising that the American Concrete Institute has been part of this recent movement. It was in 1958 that ACI Committee 438, Torsion, was authorized by the Institute.

Abstract:

Two series of rectangular reinforced concrete beams were tested to destruction under combined bending and torsional loads. All beams contained both longitudinal and transverse reinforcement.

Abstract:

Presented are the results of an ivestigation on combined bending and torsion of reinforced plaster model beams. . .Finally, on the basis of the interaction curve, a simple design procedure is proposed.

Abstract:

Based on extensive recent tests, a summary is given regarding the strength and stiffness of structural concrete members in pure torsion. Plain, ordinary reinfored, and prestressed concrete members having rectangular, T-and L-sections are considered.

Abstract:

This paper is presented in two parts. Part 1 describes the theoretical part of an investigation into the behavior and strength of rectangular reinforced concrete beams subjected to combined bending and torsion. It reflects the actual trends of the variation of torsional strength of reinforced concrete beams arising from the presence of bending moments. Part 2 reports on tests of 14 reinforced concrete beams of 6x12-in. nominal cross-section.
