Abstract:

In proportioning concrete mixtures with the aid of computers, due regard must be given to such parameters as rheological properties of the mix and intensity of vibration. Translation of given relations into mathematical formulas presented here makes it possible to use automatic computers to calculate parameters of the mix. Simple relations are summarized in flow chart and block diagrams, and the calculations necessary for checking and adjusting the mix are introduced. After a simplification of the theory, the derived relations call be applied in practical production of ready-mixed concrete and in batching plants of large construction firms which have computers available. The whole process of computation is demonstrated by practical examples.

Abstract:

A method of obtaining automated optimum cost design and detailing of continuous reinforced concrete girders serving as components of large structures is discussed and illustrated. The method has been successfully tested in automated optimum cost design of practical "one-way" solid slab, beam and girder, high-rise reinforced concrete buildings.

Abstract:

A brief description of the use of digital computers in an integrated operation by a major steel company for the purpose of estimating, detailing, and shop order entry of reinforcing bars. Explains the various equipment used and shows how the entire network of shops, engineering departments and sales departments is tied together through the use of computers.

Abstract:

An integrated system employing computer-based techniques for data processing and analysis and information storage and retrieval is described. This system serves for the evaluation of concrete quality, the selection of concrete to best match a structural design, and for the study of performance.
