Joseph Clendenen is pursuing a Master of Science in civil engineering with a construction materials emphasis at the University of Missouri-Rolla where he completed a BS in civil engineering. His most recent internship was with Holcim (US), Inc., in Chesterfield, Missouri. Joseph plans to continue his education throughout his professional life in the concrete field by attending various seminars within the region. He plans to gain knowledge of the properties of concrete and the new technologies that are beginning to emerge. Joseph's ultimate goal is to become a materials consultant specializing in concrete. Heather McLeod received her BS in civil engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is currently pursuing her master's degree and PhD, also in civil engineering, at the University of Kansas where her emphasis is in concrete materials and design. She studied concrete during her three-year stay in Asia, and was involved in the design of the Bellevue (Nebraska) Fire Training Tower. Heather is certified as an ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I, and is currently working as a research assistant at the University of Kansas, studying crack-free concrete bridge decks. Heather's goal is to become an expert in behavior and durability of concrete structural systems. His goals include either acquiring a position within a cutting-edge concrete bridge firm or continuing his education as a civil engineering PhD candidate. Fernando Tejeda received his BS in civil engineering at the Nacional Autonomous University of Mexico and is currently working at Apasco (Holcim) for the Ready Mix Quality Control Lab in Mexico City as a supervisor. He plans to begin his graduate studies at Purdue University this fall, pursuing a master's degree in civil engineering. Long-term, Fernando plans to become a private consultant. Jake Bigelow will receive his BS in civil engineering from Iowa State University this May, where he also plans to pursue his master's degree, also in civil engineering. During his undergrad years, he worked for Dr. David White performing research on Geopeir foundation aggregates. After receiving his professional license, he would like to earn his PhD in civil engineering, enabling him to teach. Faculty nominator: Sri Sritharan. |

Elizabeth Gaynor will graduate from Villanova University this May with a BS in civil engineering and then plans to pursue her master's degree, also in civil engineering, with an emphasis in structural engineering. Her graduate assistantship will be within the structural engineering department under the advisement of Dr. Shawn Gross. After this, she plans to gain some work and life experience and ultimately obtain her PhD. Elizabeth recently passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam, taking her one step closer to another career goal of becoming a licensed professional engineer. Faculty nominator: Shawn P. Gross. |

Courtney Cox is currently attending Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, where she studies construction science and plans to obtain her BS in May 2004. Last summer she interned for SpawGlass Construction Corp. in Houston, TX. She plans to pursue a master's degree and ultimately promote the historical preservation of concrete structures. Jinying Zhu was selected for her paper "Non-Contact Detection of Surface Waves Using an Air-Coupled Sensor." She currently attends the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she is pursuing a PhD in civil engineering with emphasis on NDT of concrete and stress wave analysis in solids. Her career goal is to become a professor at an accredited university in the NDT field. |
