Membership Information

ACI Committees

ACI technical committees, composed of volunteer personnel, develop ACI recommendations in their respective fields of assignment. Their work, subject to review and approval by the Technical Activities Committee and the Standards Board, forms the basis for Institute standards.

Members of committees are volunteers. Applicants are appointed by a letter from ACI headquarters. Specially qualified nonmembers of ACI may be appointed to committee membership. Committee members are selected on the basis of the personal knowledge they can contribute to committee activities. Although much benefit is often derived from the support given to a committee member through his affiliation with an organization, firm, or agency, it is not the intent that committee membership be on the basis of agency or firm representation.

Qualified persons interested in membership on a particular ACI committee may fill out a Committee Membership Application and send it to ACI headquarters for consideration. Appointment, of course, depends on current need for the particular qualifications. Where vacancies do not exist, the names of interested persons are retained for a time for use if a vacancy occurs or an enlargement of a committee permits an addition. ACI members may be appointed Associate Members pending a vacancy.

A directory of committees is available for reference. However, if you do not know which committee handles a particular issue, you can also search committee top pages for information about the mission, goals, and activities of each committee.
