SWING INTO SPRING AT THE AMERICAN CONCRETE INSTITUTE'S SPRING 2008 CONVENTION

Highlights include student competitions and Contractors’ Day

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (Feb. 11, 2008) - The American Concrete Institute’s Spring 2008 Convention is set to take place in Los Angeles, Calif., USA, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza March 30 to April 3, 2008.

This spring’s convention, with the theme “Design and Construction Compatibility,” is sure to please all ACI attendees with countless opportunities to view exhibits, attend meetings and sessions, network with concrete professionals from all over the world, and of course, see the sights of beautiful Los Angeles.

The convention will highlight two Annual Student Concrete Competitions. The FRC Bowling Ball and Egg Protection Device Competitions will be held on Sunday, March 30 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Students from around the globe will compete for prizes and the international title of designing and building the highest impact load-resistant concrete Egg Protection Device or FRC Bowling Ball. 

In addition, the convention will feature a Contractors’ Day on Tuesday, April 1. Tom Verti, president of Charles Pankow Builders and past president of ACI will, discuss the importance of creating opportunities for concrete construction competitiveness and innovation, by thinking like a master builder, at the annual Contractors’ Day Lunch. In conjunction with Contractors’ Day, new sessions on “Know Before You Build” will be presented.

For the first time, ACI will also be sponsoring a book drive at the convention to support education and literacy in the local community. All attendees are invited to bring any new or gently used children’s books to the convention.

Attendees who register by Feb. 29, 2008, will enjoy a special discounted registration fee. In addition, the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza and the InterContinental Los Angeles Century City will be offering convention attendees special rates for rooms during the convention dates. Room rates are based on availability.
