AMERICAN CONCRETE INSTITUTE SEEKS PAPERS FOR CONVENTIONS

ACI Committees Call for Papers for Fall 2008 and Fall 2009 Conventions

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (Jan. 14, 2008) - The American Concrete Institute is currently seeking papers for sessions to take place during the ACI Fall 2008 Convention in St. Louis, Mo., and the ACI Fall 2009 Convention in New Orleans, La. Use of Finite Element Analysis
ACI Committees 118 and 447 are seeking papers for the technical session on “Practical Use of Finite Element Analysis in the Design of Concrete Structures” for the ACI Fall 2008 Convention, Nov. 2-6, 2008, in St. Louis, Mo. Participants are invited to submit abstracts on topics including practical applications of finite element analysis (FEA) to facilitate the design or analysis of concrete structures.
Abstracts of 500 words, along with paper title, author name(s), and contact information should be sent to Allan Bommer at allan.bommer@bentley.com no later than March 8, 2008.

Seismic Design and Detailing of Bridge Protection Systems
ACI Committee 341 is seeking papers for its technical session on “Seismic Design and Detailing of Bridge Protection Systems” for the ACI Fall 2008 Convention, Nov. 2-6, 2008, in St. Louis, Mo. Participants are invited to submit abstracts on topics including, but not limited to, isolation bearings, bridge deck expansion joints, shock transmission units, dampers, restrainers, and FRP strengthening systems.
Abstracts of 200 to 300 words, along with paper title, author name(s), and contact information should be sent to Ronald Watson at rwatson@rjwatson.com no later than Feb. 15, 2008.

Notable Concrete in St. Louis
ACI Committee 124 is seeking examples of “Notable Concrete in St. Louis” for the ACI Fall 2008 Convention, Nov. 2-6, 2008, in St. Louis, Mo. Participants are invited to submit images of notable concrete in St. Louis and its vicinity. The significance of the structure may be historical, aesthetic, functional, structural, construction-related, unusual use or application, or simply from personal affection.
The image, along with a short description, including its name and location, the submitter’s name(s), and contact information should be sent to Michael Paul at mpaul@duffnet.com no later than May 1, 2008. 

Material Science Modeling
ACI Committee 236 is seeking papers for its technical session on “Material Science Modeling as a Solution to Concrete Problems” for the ACI Fall 2009 Convention, Nov. 8-12, 2009, in New Orleans, La. Participants are invited to submit abstracts on topics including, but not limited to, modeling of material properties, durability and performance models, early-age concrete models, and shrinkage models.
Abstracts of 200 to 300 words, along with paper title, author name(s), and contact information should be sent to Jussara Tanesi at jussara.ramadan@fhwa.dot.gov no later than June 1, 2008.
