Definition  


A Shotcrete Nozzleman (Wet-Mix Process) is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly place wet-mix shotcrete.
 


Scope and Knowledge  

The primary technical resource for this program is ACI's Concrete Craftsman Series, Shotcrete for the Craftsman, CCS-4.

Other supplemental technical resource materials used in this program include the following:

ACI's Concrete Craftsman Series, Slabs on Grade, CCS-1.

The program requires knowledge in the following areas of Shotcrete construction:

1) Basic concrete technology

2) Shotcrete Equipment

3) Environmental conditions and precautions

4) Inspection and preparation of surfaces

5) Shotcrete placement, principles, and techniques

6) Communication

7) Finishing and tolerance controls

8) Safety

9) Testing / quality

10) Curing
 


Certification Requirements  

NOTE: No specific education is required as a prerequisite for Shotcrete Nozzleman certification, however 500 hours of verified work experience as a nozzleman or nozzleman-in-training is a prerequisite to participate in the written or performance examinations.

ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who meet both of the following requirements:

1) A passing grade on the ACI written examination; and

2) Successful completion of the ACI performance examination.

The ninety (90) minute written examination is "closed book" and consists of 60 - 90 multiple choice questions. A minimum score of 75% is required to pass the written examination.

The performance examination is "closed book" and requires actual demonstration of your knowledge of surface preparation, equipment, start-up procedures, proper placing / nozzling technique, finishing, and curing. The examinee must place dry-mix shotcrete in the vertical position and has the option to also place dry-mix shotcrete in the overhead position.

Recertification is necessary every five (5) years, and requires successful completion of both an oral interview and performance examination(s).
