ACI Student Fellowships:

 
2005-2006 ACI Student Fellowship Recipients:
Lisa Feldman is currently pursuing a PhD in civil engineering at the University of Western Ontario, with plans to graduate in 2006.  She received her master's degree in civil engineering at The University of Texas at Austin in 1993 and her bachelor's degree in civil engineering from The University of Waterloo in 1992. Lisa's long-term career goal is to become a professor at both the graduate and undergraduate levels to educate the next generation of engineers that will support the concrete industry. Matthew Tyler Ley is currently attending the University of Texas at Austin, pursuing a PhD in civil engineering, with plans to graduate in 2007. He also earned his MS in civil engineering there in 2002. He earned his BS in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University in 2000. Tyler has spent two years as a practicing engineer, but believes his skills will be better used as a professor and researcher in academia.  Faculty nominator: Kevin J. Folliard, University of Texas at Austin; Convention Guide and Industry mentor: Paul Tikalsky, The Pennsylvania State University.
Jeffery Volz is currently attending The Pennsylvania State University, pursuing a PhD in structural engineering, with plans to graduate in 2007, where he also earned his MS in civil engineering in 1987 as well as his BS in civil engineering in 1985. Long-term, Jeff plans to pursue his passions for teaching by becoming a professor.  Faculty nominator: Andrea Schokker, The Pennsylvania State University; Convention Guide: Calvin McCall, Concrete Engineering Specialists; Industry mentor: Sean P. Gross, Villanova University.

ACI Graduate Scholarships:

 
2005-2006 ACI - W. R. Grace Scholarship Recipient:

Cole Olsen is pursuing a MS degree in structural engineering at Stanford University. Upon completion, Cole then plans to pursue a doctoral degree. He received his BS in civil engineering from Oregon State University in 2004. Cole’s long-term goals include designing and providing construction services for reinforced concrete structures, and eventually returning to academia, researching and teaching at a large research university.

2005-2006 V. Mohan Malhotra Scholarship Recipient:
Robert Rodden is currently attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, pursuing a master's degree is civil engineering, where he also received a BS in civil engineering in 2004. In his professional career, after completing his MS degree, Robert plans to become a licensed professional engineer and then pursue a doctorate in civil engineering and become a professor.  
2005-2006 ACI Bertold E. Weinberg Scholarship Recipient:
Vinicio Suarez is pursuing a master's degree degree in structural engineering at the North Carolina State University, with plans to graduate in 2006. He received his undergraduate civil engineering degree from Universidad Tecnica Particular de Loja, Ecuador, in 2001. Vinicio currently holds three ACI certifications and is an approved examiner for four of the certification programs. Vinicio hopes to become an expert in the field of evaluation and retrofitting of concrete structures.
2005-2006 ACI Scholarship Recipient:
Matthew Kilgour plans to pursue a MS in civil engineering at Purdue University, where he recently completed his BS in civil engineering in 2005. Upon completion of his master’s degree in 2006, he plans to enter in to the field of engineering to design and consult for a civil engineering firm, and ultimately begin his own engineering firm one day.
2005-2006 P. K. Mehta Scholarship Recipient:
John Kevern is currently attending Iowa State University, pursuing a master's degree in civil engineering, with plans to graduate in 2006.  After completing this degree, John plans to pursue his PhD and become a licensed professional engineer. He would like to teach at a university while continuing research and development of sustainable concrete.
2005-2006 ACI  Katharine and Bryant Mather Scholarship Recipient:
Kelly Levy has recently completed her BS in civil engineering at Auburn University, where she plans to pursue a master's in structural engineering this year. Her short-term goal is to present her concrete research findings at national conventions. Long-term, Kelly is considering pursuing a doctoral degree or entering the design industry.

2005-2006 Peter D. Courtois Concrete Construction
Scholarship Recipient:
Jeremiah Fasl is currently attending the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. After completing his BS, Jeremiah plans to pursue a master's degree and then work for an engineering firm, in either the private or public sector, to become a professional engineer.

2005-2006 ACI-James Instruments Student Award for Research on NDT of Concrete Recipient:
Gonzalo Gallo was selected for his paper "The Use of Surface Waves to Evaluate In-place Strength of Concrete." He currently attends the University of Illinois, Urbana.
