Abstract:
A lack of bridges in rural areas of developing countries means that traveling to schools, markets, and medical centers can be hazardous. A group called Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) is working to change this state of affairs. Recently, B2P partnered with students from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, to complete a suspended cable footbridge in Ti Peligre, Haiti. Prior to the construction, student investigators tested mixtures and mixing methods with the goal of maximizing the quality of the concrete that would be used in the construction of the bridge.
