Abstract:
Aggregate shading is a mottling of trowel-finished concrete associated with coarse aggregate particles near the slab surface. Normally, it’s an aesthetic problem that doesn’t affect the performance of an industrial slab-on-ground. However, it can be also associated with flaking of the mortar layer above coarse aggregate particles. The authors discuss a number of factors that could contribute to such flaking and list possible actions for avoiding the problem.
