The ACI Spring 2012 Convention features a full-slate of student and young professional-oriented events.ACI Students and Young Professionals are the up and coming leaders of ACI and the Concrete Industry, ACI encourages all students and young professionals to attend committee meetings, technical sessions, tours, and networking events offered throughout the convention.

Sunday, March 18

*NEW* Art of Concrete Student Competition & Display
Voting Open All Day
The objective of this new competition is to explore the artistic nature of concrete and display its many varieties of form, function, and/or beauty through a work of art. This competition is open to individual undergraduate or graduate students or those on cooperative or internship work assignments. Entries are limited to one entry per individual. Students may present their original work of art via sculpture, painting, drawing, photography or scale model. Twenty entries will be selected to be displayed during the convention. Attendees will then have the opportunity to vote on their favorite piece. Click here to learn more, initial applications are due February 10, 2012.

Student FRC Bowling Ball Competition
11:00 am – 5:00 pm
Students will be challenged to design and construct and Fiber-Reinforced Concrete (FRC) bowling ball that will achieve optimal performance under specified failure criteria. Click here for more information and to register your team for the competition. Deadline for advance registration is February 13, 2012.

Student & Young Professional Networking Event
9:00 pm – 10:30 pm
Don't miss the opportunity to meet with fellow students and young professionals while networking with ACI members in a fun and casual environment. Food and beverages will be available for purchase and all attendees will be entered for a chance to win door prizes.

Monday, March 19

ACI Career Fair for Students & Young Professionals
8:30 am – 10:30 am
The Career Fair for Students & Young Professionals provides student and young professionals with the opportunity to network with potential employers. Interested students and young professionals are required to register for this event prior to the convention using the convention registration form. Pre-registered attendees are required to upload resumes to the ACI Career Center prior to the event and bring hard copies to the event.

Student Lunch
11:30 am - 1:30 pm
$40 U.S. per person; FREE to students who preregister by February 19, 2012
On March 19th, Dale P. Bentz from the National Institute of Standards and Technology will deliver a presentation titled "Giving Back to the Global Community: An Attainable Responsibility and Privilege." Awards for the Student FRC Bowling Ball Competition and Art of Concrete Student Competition will also be presented.

*To qualify for the student rate you must be a currently enrolled, full time student. All students (that are not current members of ACI) will need to provide a copy of their class schedule or a letter from their advisor. Please fax your proof of enrollment to 248-848-3801 or e-mail it to Carole.Berrelez@concrete.org. Registrations will not be processed until this information is received.
