ACI Spring 2009 Convention—Making Literacy More Concrete!
Illiteracy is a growing problem in the United States with more than 50 million individuals unable to read at a basic level. In an effort to fight adolescent illiteracy, ACI will be conducting a book drive during the ACI Spring 2009 Convention in San Antonio, TX. Donated books will go to the San Antonio Youth Literacy Council, an organization dedicated to promoting literacy skills to at-risk youth.
ACI is asking that each attendee bring a new or gently used children's book, grades K-12, to the convention. Book donations can be made in the exhibit area at the Marriott Rivercenter from March 14-19 during open exhibit hours.

The San Antonio Youth Literacy Council is a non profit organization that provides one-on-one reading assistance to elementary children. In 27 schools across San Antonio, volunteers tutor children who struggle with basic reading and comprehension skills.
San Antonio Youth Literacy Council Goals:
1. To provide opportunities for guided reading practice with a caring volunteer.2. To foster an enjoyment of reading.
3. To enhance motivation and self-esteem through the experience of reading.
