ACI Certification Local Sponsoring Groups
About ACI's Sponsoring Groups
ACI certification programs are conducted at the local level by ACI "Local Sponsoring Groups." Each ACI sponsoring group is granted a geographical jurisdiction. Within their jurisdiction, the local sponsoring group is responsible for conducting the certification examinations (and training courses if offered).
Use our search options to find the ACI local sponsoring group(s) in your area. Through Prometric Testing Centers, find out how you can take an objective (written) exam on computer. Also, through CCRL, find out how you can take a performance examination for the ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Grade I and ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician certification programs.
Prometric Testing Centers (Formerly Sylvan Testing Centers)
ACI and Prometric Testing Centers have teamed up to offer ACI objective (written) exams on Prometric's state-of-the-art CBT (computer-based testing) system.
Currently, Prometric offers the objective (written) exams for the following programs:
- Field Testing Technician - Grade I
- Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- Concrete Flatwork Finisher/Technician
Examinees seeking one of the three testing technician certifications must pass the performance exam through an ACI-approved Local Sponsoring Group within one year of passing the written exam. Examinees seeking full Finisher certification must submit ACI work experience forms to be considered for certification.
There are plans to offer the objective (written) exam in the near future for the following programs:
- ACI Tilt-Up Supervisor/Technician
The Prometric CBT system offers the following advantages:
Scheduling and location - Prometric Centers are located in over 220 sites around the U.S., and are open 6 days a week (holidays excepted). This allows you to take the exam when it is convenient for you.
Professional, distraction-free environment that allows you to concentrate on the exam.
No computer knowledge is needed - Before the exam begins, the computer presents a simple introductory lesson which explains the process of selecting answers and moving around the test from question to question. The time you spend on the practice lesson does not count against the time allotted for the exam, and an online help feature and Prometric Administrator are always available. During the exam, the system allows you to mark questions for later review and return to questions to change your answers.
Same-day test results - As soon as you complete your exam, your preliminary scores are displayed on-screen, printed out and given to you. Prometric then forwards the results electronically to ACI for verification and final processing. Challenges will be considered if submitted to ACI Headquarters up to sixty days after receipt of the exam.
ADA compliant - All Prometric Test Centers are ADA accessible and compliant. Most special needs can be accommodated easily with the permission of ACI. In all cases, prior approval by ACI in writing is required.
Scheduling procedures - To schedule an exam, call the Prometric National Registration Center at 1-800-274-1900. Have the following information ready: name, address, social security number, daytime telephone number, name of the exam you wish to take, where and when you wish to test, and method of payment (credit card, check or money order).
You may cancel an appointment, but you must do so by noon two days before the scheduled appointment or a late cancellation/no-show fee will be charged.
On exam day, you should arrive at the test center at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to allow sufficient time to check in. You must bring two forms of identification; both must have a signature, and at least one must have a recent photograph or physical description (a social security card is not considered valid ID for this purpose). You may bring a nonprogrammable calculator, but no other materials. Pencils and scratch paper will be provided.
CCRL
The performance examination for the ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Grade I and ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician certification programs can be administered to technicians employed by a laboratory pursuing CCRL evaluation. Technicians seeking certification in one of these two certification programs must also pass the written examination through an ACI-approved Local Sponsoring Group or Prometric Testing Centers within one year of passing the performance examination. For additional information on testing through CCRL, contact Ray Kolos at 301/975-6704.
